A delicious dish featuring gyros meat slow-cooked in a savory Metaxa sauce.

Ingredients

  • 500 grams gyros meat
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 100 ml Metaxa brandy
  • 200 ml vegetable stock
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a pot over medium heat.
  2. Add onions and garlic, cooking until soft.
  3. Stir in the gyros meat and brown on all sides.
  4. Pour in the Metaxa and vegetable stock.
  5. Add oregano, salt, and pepper.
  6. Simmer for 45 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  7. Serve hot with pita bread or rice.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, allow the dish to marinate overnight.
  • This recipe can be doubled for larger gatherings.
